    Counselling and Psychotherapy Approach

On life’s path, we all encounter difficulties; the support and guidance of an unbiased objective person can often be the difference to overcoming life’s challenges or languishing beneath their weight. At the heart of good psychotherapy is the alliance built up between therapist and client. Through a collaborative, open and honest relationship in therapy clients have the opportunity for personal growth and positive change.

In his practice, Tim draws upon many therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, Client-Centred Therapy, Gestalt Therapy and Compassion-focused therapy, tailoring the therapy to suit each client’s individual needs and requirements.

The foundation of Tim’s therapy is based on Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy. Building a trusting, non-judgemental and supportive environment Tim creates a safe place from which clients can explore the issues which face them. In his own unique style grounded in compassion, understanding and encouragement clients are empowered to examine and address the challenges they face.

Tim believes that by gaining a deeper understanding of the interaction between one’s thoughts, feelings and behaviours a client can regain a sense of control in their life. Learn new ways to cope with life’s difficulties. Break the self-perpetuating cycles of thought and behaviour which trap us in these difficulties and connect with what will help them flourish in the future. Each one of us are on our own personal life journey, a journey where self-awareness can allow us to live a happier and more fulfilled life.

Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

Tim has experience of working with men and women from all age groups on a broad range of issues such as Anxiety, Depression, Low Self-Esteem, Relationship Issues, Life-Cycle Change, Loss and Bereavement, Work-Related Issues, Family Issues, Assertiveness, Body Image, Anger Management, Resilience, Sexual Abuse and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. He has a particular interest in how we manage stress/anxiety in our lives. Whilst we all face challenges some people seem to cope better than others. In his work with clients Tim focuses on learning new ways of managing our stress and fostering resilience when things inevitably do not work out exactly as we had envisaged.

His work with the Dublin Simon Community has gained Tim experience in working with clients who have issues related to addiction, trauma and isolation. In his position as a counselling psychotherapist for the Sure Steps Counselling service run by the Dublin Simon community he provides support for some of the most vulnerable members of our society. Tim also has a keen interest in the benefits and use of both mindfulness and physical activity in the promotion of positive mental health. When we are mindful we are more attentive, caring and self-aware. It is his belief that mindfulness and physical activity can calm us and focus us while improving overall health and well-being.

Tim’s fee is €70 per session
