Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach
As part of his practice, Michael combines elements from several styles of psychotherapy and tailors the treatment according to the client’s needs.
For example, at times he may use cognitive-behavioural approaches, a practical approach to treatment, to help clients develop more effective coping skills.
At other times, he would use more psychoanalytic methods, which typically focus more on talking than doing. Here, sessions would focus more on discussing early experiences to help clients better understand the root causes of their current problems. This form of therapy helps to identify patterns of thinking, feeling and interacting that may contribute to current struggles.
Michael believes that through the course of therapy, clients will become more aware of their thoughts and feelings and develop a greater repertoire of resources to effectively deal with their problems.
