He is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS) in the UK and he is a Registered Clinical Psychologist with the Psychological Society of Ireland.

He is also a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist, registered with the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP) and the European Association of Psychotherapy (EAP).  He is a full member of the Irish Psychoanalytic Association (IPAA) in Dublin and the Northern Ireland Institute of Human Relations (NIIHR) in Belfast, where he serves as a committee member.

    Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

As part of his practice, Michael combines elements from several styles of psychotherapy and tailors the treatment according to the client’s needs.

For example, at times he may use cognitive-behavioural approaches, a practical approach to treatment, to help clients develop more effective coping skills.

At other times, he would use more psychoanalytic methods, which typically focus more on talking than doing.  Here, sessions would focus more on discussing early experiences to help clients better understand the root causes of their current problems.  This form of therapy helps to identify patterns of thinking, feeling and interacting that may contribute to current struggles.

Michael believes that through the course of therapy, clients will become more aware of their thoughts and feelings and develop a greater repertoire of resources to effectively deal with their problems.

Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

Michael worked as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist from 2005, in both the Voluntary Sector and the NHS, leaving in 2012 to move into independent clinical practice.

As a registered clinical psychologist specializing in psychotherapy and other forms of psychological treatment (e.g., CBT), Michael has considerable experience in mental health assessment, formulation, treatment, and behavior change.

Michael also offers Supervision from a psychoanalytic perspective.

Michael’s fee is €120 per session
