Nessa Muller has a Master’s degree in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from the Dublin Business School (DBS, 2004 -2006). Her clinical training was as a psychotherapist in adult psychiatry and primary school environments. More recent training was completed with a Foundation Year in Systemic Family Psychotherapy (Mater Misercordiae University Hospital), and at the Training work shop on sexual abuse (Rape Crisis Centre).
In 2010 Nessa completed a further Higher Diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy (2008-2010, DBS) as well as a certificate year in Addiction Studies (2009-2010, NUI Maynooth).
Nessa also is involved in managing/supervising clinical placements for students of the Masters Degree in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (DBS), and provides clinical group supervision for students on placement in a Dublin-inner city primary school (Independent colleges). Nessa has successfully completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Supervision (2010-2011, Trinity College), and will continue her post graduate studies at Trinity for another 4 years.
Nessa works with a wide range of emotional problems that can negatively influence an individual’s life and well being such as: anxiety, panic attacks, stress, depression, bereavement and loss, relationship and sexual difficulties, low self-esteem, lack of confidence, eating disorders, sexual abuse, childhood traumas and personal development.
Her primary aim is to ensure a safe and strictly confidential environment for her clients enabling them to explore, recognize and express difficult feelings, thoughts and anxieties.
Nessa draws upon a number of approaches in her work with clients including integrative and psychoanalytic psychotherapy. She has been a member of The Association for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy in Ireland since 2004.

Adoption
Nessa works as a volunteer counsellor for Barnardos Post Adoption Service since Sept 2010
She has experience in working with issues related to adoption, domestic adoption and inter-country adoption. She provides and individual psychotherapy to adult adoptees. Emerging themes might be conflicting thoughts and feelings around being adopted, questions about birth parents and ethnicity, search for birth family members, reunion with family members, and post-reunion experiences.
Clinical Supervision
All individuals in the helping profession benefit from adequate and appropriate supervision. This is not to be confused with line/management supervision which usually is provided within the workplace and often has a purely administrative function.
What is supervision?
The supervision I provide is independent from a particular psychotherapy approach or profession as such. The supervisory methods and skills can be applied to various different professional contexts and types of supervision. Supervision will include exploration of the client’s presentation, the relationship between client and the professional, the interventions of the professional, the professional's own person, the working alliance between supervisee and supervisor, and the wider context in which therapy takes place, that is the organization the professional works in. The supervision process is in its essence enabling and resourcing the professional. It aims at creating a climate which avoids the sense of expert and student and instead creates an environment in which dynamics and pressure of work can be felt, explored and understood, and new ways of working can be co-created by supervisee and supervisor (Hawkins & Shohet, 1989).
My personal interest lies in individual and group work with experienced professionals in Dublin City Centre engaged in client-focused work such as:
Psychotherapists & Counsellors
Social Care Workers
Family Support Workers
Teachers
Youth Workers
Volunteers
